Does My Kia Come with a Spare Tire?

Hand Wiping Down Car Tire

It used to be that every Kia vehicle came standard with a spare tire, but today, increased priority on fuel economy and trunk space have eliminated this feature. However, this has been replaced with a tire repair kit. Your new Kia may not come with a spare tire, but it does have the Kia Tire Mobility Kit (TMK) which comes with the tools you need to help with a flat should you find yourself on the side of the road in Carson. Learn more about this kit, how to use it, and where to go for a more permanent fix with the Kia of Cerritos service team.

What is a Tire Repair Kit?

This tire repair kit comes with the necessary tools and equipment needed to temporarily patch or repair your Kia’s flat tire. This will get you safely to the nearest Kia dealership for a full repair or replacement. Though you don’t have a spare provided by Kia, the tire repair kits help cut down on your car’s weight and increase trunk space, while still giving you a safe option should the unexpected occur.

Like many automakers, Kia phased out supplying spare tires in 2008, introducing the Kia Tire Mobility Kit in its place. Inside your Kia Tire Mobility Kit, you’ll find:

  • Tire sealant
  • A filling hose
  • A compressor
  • A tire gauge
  • Necessary cables and hoses

It’s important to note that this kit is great for a temporary fix for a Kia flat tire. This is not a permanent fix. Make sure you bring your Kia into a Kia dealership like Kia of Cerritos to get your tire taken care of so you can safely return to Orange County roads. Worried about the cost? Don’t worry. We offer service and parts specials for additional savings on the services and parts your vehicle needs.

How to Use the Kia Tire Mobility Kit

If you’re experiencing a tire leak or notice damage to the tire, use the following steps:

  • Find your tire mobility kit located in the trunk under the floorboard
  • Attach the inflator hose to the tire valve stem
  • Turn on the unit: this will inject sealant into your tire
  • Use the compressor to inflate the tire
  • Once driveable, make your way to your nearest Kia dealership for service

If you’re in need of some assistance, be sure to consult your owner’s manual or contact our service team. We’re more than happy to walk you through the process so you can safely make your way to a dealership.

Can I Get a Spare Tire for My Kia?

If you’d prefer a Kia spare over the repair kit, you can opt for a Kia Spare Tire Kit which also includes a tire jack. If you’d like more information on this available accessory, contact our parts department. We’ll be more than happy to help you find what you need.
